So many customers come to us and don't know anything about backups. They expect the hosting company to take care of it. Although they do provide a service, we have learned not to rely on it. In many cases the backups were never created, were over written with a broken or infected version of the site, or failed to create correctly resulting in a non-viable backup. Your best defense is alway to make a manual backup of your site and download it onto your local computer. Most CMS based websites, such as Wordpress and Joomla have free backup programs that just take a minute to run. Never upgrade your website or edit your website without making a backup first. Also, just as a suggestion, make sure you hosting account has enough diskspace for the backup to be stored.
